An overdue change
The care industry is broken. The choice between provider or portal was not serving anyone well, so we found a better way.
Most NDIS and aged care providers are designed for compliance, operational efficiency and financial gain – scaling through rigid rosters and centralised systems. Despite the growing demand for compassionate, flexible care, providers struggle with workforce shortages, leaving participants to navigate a revolving door of unfamiliar support staff.
Online platforms offer greater flexibility for workers and choice for clients, but fall short in delivering continuity, deep empathy, or holistic support for complex and intergenerational needs. With up to 10 workers responding to every job posted, the system is saturated, yet disconnected.
Neither have clients or support workers best interests at heart. Neither acknowledge the emotional and physical toll on families, and the burnout facing frontline workers. They often miss what truly matters: genuine human connection across generations, and the lived experiences of both clients and caregivers.

The Lolka story
Our Founder, Karolina, grew up in a small Polish town, caring for her beloved Babcia (grandmother), who had Alzheimer’s. At that time there was little support for families. No respite. No nursing homes. No guidance. Just love, and exhaustion.
Still a teenager, Karolina learned early what true dignity meant, and how painful it was when society overlooked it. That experience shaped the course of her life. It gave her purpose.
Her journey then took her to Nottingham, London and Sydney, before settling on the Gold Coast. Along the way, she worked across every corner of the care sector; in people’s homes, residential facilities and community programs. She witnessed both the beauty and the heartbreak within the system. What she discovered was simple: the care system is broken, but the people within it are not. Carers give so much of themselves, yet the system often makes it hard for them to deliver the kind of care they believe in.
Karolina started Lolka to change that. To do better by everyone’s Babcia, by anyone who needs care, and by those who dedicate their lives to giving it.
‘Lolka’ was what Babcia called a young Karolina. It’s a name that carries love, and now, a promise.
